Users will be able to run existing Palm applications on the new OS, but Palm will be working to move developers onto using the new OS as soon as possible, which Palm CEO Ed Colligan described as a “new foundation for Palm”.

Microsoft Issues Update For Vista Synch Software

Microsoft has issued an update for their Windows Vista Mobile Device Center software, which syncs the data on mobile devices with desktop PCs. The new version 6.1 adds a significant new feature; it finally allows Vista users to synch files with Windows Mobile 6 cell phones.

This rather important feature had been missing from previous versions of the Vista synching software,  as a bug in the Microsoft software stopped the file synch from working correctly. Microsoft themselves recommended that users stick with ActiveSynch, the older software that was bundled with cell phones running older versions of their mobile operating system. However, ActiveSynch doesn’t run on Vista, effectively leaving those who chose to upgrade to the latest versions of Microsoft’s mobile and desktop operating systems in the cold. The new version of the Device Center can be downloaded for free from here.
