Google to partner with Nokia
Added on 2008-02-12 14:07:00
by Mark Brezinski

Hot on Yahoo!'s tail, Google has announced a partnership with Nokia. Just as Yahoo! is doing with T-Mobile, Google's suite of services will be used to augment Nokia's existing software. Who will win in this epic search-engine battle for mobile dominance? Google, most likely. Since we were a bit surprised to find out Yahoo! hadn't faded into relative obscurity years ago, however, we're content with sitting back and watching these two duke it out.

Yahoo Announces New Suite of Mobile Advertising Services
Added on 2007-03-27 18:11:00
by Brenda Keener

Today, Yahoo has unveiled a new suite of services designed to accelerate the movement of online ad publishers into the mobile world.  The Yahoo Mobile Ad Network, Yahoo Mobile Content Engine, Yahoo Mobile Media Directory, and Yahoo Mobile Site Submit tools are all designed to provide an enhanced mobile experience for end users, and to ease the transition into mobile for web publishers.

The Yahoo Mobile Ad Network will allow publishers to monetize their content via display ads, video ads, in-game ads, and sponsored links - as they do on their PCs today.  The Yahoo Mobile Content Engine makes content available via Yahoo One Search , Yahoo's mobile search engine.  Designed uniquely for mobile users, the Yahoo Mobile Media Directory will feature a collection of ringtones, wallpapers, and other mobile content.  Yahoo Mobile Site Submit provides a portal for site submission similar to the familiar PC-based version on the Yahoo site.

Yahoo Mobile Publisher Services is now live in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, India, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam.

Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0 Launches March 7th for Windows Mobile Devices
Added on 2007-03-09 17:26:00
by Brenda Keener

The Yahoo! Go service has just been launched for Windows Mobile, and now has been expanded to over 75 Windows Mobile devices and 175 different cellular phone models.

This service is optimized for the small mobile screen, called the “third screen”,and doesn’t try to cram large PC-based content into an eye-test for its users.  It features rich  content such as current and breaking news tickers, customizable widgets accessible via a carousel-like interface, photo sharing via a Flickr widget, and full synchronization with Yahoo Mail as well as Yahoo content such as stock tickers. This is a great feature for those who upgrade or change phones often, or if phones are lost or stolen.  A nice map widget is also handy for road warriors.

One of the best features of this service is oneSearch; a search engine optimized just for mobile users that provides relevant search results instead of a list of URLs that may or may not be what the user needs. oneSearch doesn’t just base its search results on what you enter, it also bases your results based on where you are in the world.  This means that searching for a movie title will show you where it is playing near you.

Yahoo! Go also uses advanced caching technology and a “push” service to eliminate long download times.
