Looks like the iPhone Dev Team has done it again, releasing software that will unlock iPhone's running software version 1.1.1. According to Gizmodo the software will only work on phone's that have not previously been unlocked, so those who have an unlocked iPhone running 1.02 (or a bricked phone) won't be able to use this software to upgrade firmware and unlock their device. Instead they will have to wait for upcoming software that will roll back your iPhone to a pristine unlocked state. Those who have been waiting for a free unlock instead of paying for iPhoneSimFree's unlocking option will be cheered by these developments. Of course we can expect to go through this all over again once the next update rolls out.
iPhone unlocking has hit the streets…literally. Two friends decided to take their iPhone unlocking services to their local AT&T store and set up shop outside. The guys are reportedly unlocking phones for free which makes us wonder how they’re covering the overhead for those nice signs they have.
Let's say you're sick of AT&T's shenannigans, and have a plane ticket to Hong Kong, $750 extra bucks and aren't scared of bricking your iPhone... you, friend, are a candidate for unlocking an iPhone. While we're pretty sure the hack isn't any different than the TurboSIM hack floating around for a few weeks, the company says people wanting to get their hands on an iPhone with the carrier of their choice can buy an unlocked iPhone for $2000, or bring an extra iPhone for $750. We're into unlocked iPhones and everything, but we, nor any rational human being, should be able to justify $2000 or even $1250 on an unlocked iPhone.
