My Location for your Treo
Added on 2008-01-23 02:54:00

|
Google Map’s My Location can make your phone work sort of like a GPS even if it doesn’t have GPS functionality. Up until now it didn’t work for Palm, so one developed Razix decided to take matters into their own hands and create a way for it to work. The program is free to use but is also ad driven. If you want to ditch the ads you can purchase an ad free version for $10. Download it here.

Palm pays attention to bloggers?
Added on 2007-08-24 09:01:00
by Alfredo Padilla
Engadget recently put out an open letter to Palm encouraging them to change course and recapture the innovation they've shown in the past. As many of you know Palm has recently been on the ropes as other handsets have matched or exceeded many of the Treo's selling points as Palm has barely changed the lineup since the Treo 650. In addition to that upcoming Palm products like the Gandolf and Foleo have not been very well received. Interestingly it looks like Palm was listening, as their CEO Ed Colligan responded to Engadget's letter with a post on Palm's blog, stating:
"I forwarded it to our entire executive staff and many others at Palm have read it. Although I can’t say I agree with
every point, many are right on."
We have to say that we are both surprised and gladdened by Palm's response. Our analysis of where the company's at is just about the same as Engadget's and we too hope that Palm makes some of the changes necessary to recapture their past success.

Linux based Palm's coming soon?
Added on 2007-08-23 09:53:00
by Alfredo Padilla

Digitimes is reporting that Palm may be releasing new Treos based on the Linux platform as soon as October. Instead of using the Access Linux platform which is being developed by the company that actually bought the old Palm OS, instead indications are that they will be using a version of Linux developed by Wind River Systems. They are using the same platform to run their oft-maligned and potentially delayed Palm Foleo pseudo-laptop. We have to wonder if this is Palm scrambling to get a new platform out there as criticism of their offerings has ramped up over the past year.

Palm and Verizon update Treo
Added on 2007-07-13 12:34:00
by Mark Brezinski
Palm Treo users on Verizon have just received a fairly substantial functionality update. The more significant update was for the 700w while there was a minor one for the 700wx. The 1.22 patch for the 700w introduces high-speed DUN, so your Treo can now moonlight as a wireless modem. Also, your music will now be able to grace your Bluetooth headphones via the addition of A2DP support. Other updates include a minor interface upgrade which provides more accessible speakerphone and mute buttons, enhanced hands-free carkit support, and some abbreviated dialing utility. The patch isn't so glamorous for the 700wx, simply updating the DUN some and integrating a few more Daylight Savings features.
You can download the patch here.

RIM earnings up huge, Palm loses ground
Added on 2007-06-29 11:46:00
by Randall Bennett
Both mobile device maker RIM and Palm reported earnings yesterday, and most people reading WirelessInfo probably realize RIM hit a sweet spot with the BlackBerry Pearl, while Palm continues to reel from a lack of innovation. It should come as no surprise that RIM reported blockbuster earnings, rising 73% this quarter gaining $1.06 per share, compared to Palm's 15 cent per share loss. And while we're no stock analysts, we don't see too much changing in the way of Palm and RIM's future. RIM is on track to ship a version of the Pearl 2, adding much more multimedia rich features to an already stellar device, while Palm is planning to release the Foleo, a "mobile companion" device we consider to be DOA.

Treo 755p Hands-on
Added on 2007-05-09 02:11:00
by Emily Price
|
Engadget has gotten their hands on the Treo 755p Palm's follow-up to the 700p. The 755p doesn't have that many improvements and they don't see any 700p users getting envious that they didn't hold out another year for the upgrade. You can read more of Engadgets thoughts about the 755p and check out their gallery of pictures of the handset here.

Palm selling out?
Added on 2007-03-20 08:57:00
by Emily Price
|
Word on the street is that Palm is selling itself off this week. The suspected potential buyers include Nokia and Motorola, as well as private equity firms Texas Pacific Group, and Silver Lake Partners. Palm is reportedly seeking prices around $20 per share. While Palm reportedly would prefer to sell to a private firm, Nokia and Motorola both may make high offers in order to add the Treo to their product lineup.
