Remember how we were not impressed by the new 2 year Sim only plan by AT&T ? Well looks like AT&T realized their folly and now admit that they made a mistake (did I hear that right?). The Sim only plan can now be purchased sans any contract and for details head over to the homepage.

AT&T showed some consideration (almost) to the mobile consumer out there as it’s released a new Sim only Plan. The plan entails purchasing a 3G 64K SIM card for $5 and entering into a 2-year contract with the company (there is always a catch). The sim can be used with any unlocked mobile phone and if interested, go here.

iPhone software unlock coming in 3 days

It seems that iPhoneSimFree has worked out their issues with the legal powers that be and have decided to release their software SIM crack for the iPhone. The unlock is expected to be released in the next 48-72 hours and will allow users to use all the features of the iPhone EXCEPT visual voicemail. One thing to note is that they plan on not offering refunds should Apple re-lock the phone after the next update. So, you can either never update the phone and miss out on bug fixes and upgrades or run the risk of having an inactivated paperweight.

iPhone accidently unlocked to work with Vodaphone?
Added on 2007-07-19 10:40:00
by Randall Bennett
Wow, while we can't confirm the news, sounds like someone in the UK is actually using an iPhone over Vodaphone's network. Essentially the user used the previous iAsign exploit to unlock the phone from using the bundled SIM card from AT&T (a feat we documented a few days ago.) The user then replaced the SIM with another AT&T SIM that just happened to work with Vodaphone, and Voila!
The user says Visual Voicemail doesn't work, which makes sense, but all other services work. The phone still has the AT&T logo in the upper left corner, but regardless, some progress toward unlocking the iPhone. Good news for UK residents on importing the phone too.
