Microsoft to buy Danger
Added on 2008-02-11 09:14:00
by Alfredo Padilla
It looks like Microsoft is on an aqcuisition streak. In addition to its recent decision to try and by Yahoo Microsoft is also making a move in the mobile space to buy Danger Inc. Danger makes the Sidekick smartphone, which is popular amongst the younger set. There's no information about how much Microsoft is paying for Danger or what they intend to do with it. Microsoft, of course, already develops the Windows Mobile platform for smart phones.

T-Mobile Fixes Slide Problem
Added on 2007-11-23 10:25:00
by Tanya Palta
T-mobile has identified and fixed the problem that was plaguing the Sidekick Slide and the Slide will once again hit the shelves by next week.
According to a statement from T-Mobile:
"Motorola has determined that the intermittent power cycling on some T-Mobile Sidekick Slide devices was caused by a minor issue relating to the battery contacts. Motorola also has identified and tested a solution which it will implement for existing devices, and incorporate into newly manufactured ones. T-Mobile expects to begin offering the Sidekick Slide again beginning next week."

Sidekick Slide sliding away
Added on 2007-11-17 11:06:00
by Alfredo Padilla
It looks like the recent problems with the Sidekick Slide's, um, slide are leading T-Mobile to pull the device from shelves. At least it seems it's no longer available online and reports are rolling in that it's no longer available in stores either. As Gizmodo points out, this is the kind of stories that companies love to announce on Fridays so the media (I guess that's us) doesn't pay much attention to it. I believe they used to call that "throwing it out with the Friday trash" on West Wing.

Slide loses power when um, sliding
Added on 2007-11-14 05:13:00
by Emily Price
|
When you think of the Sidekick Slide one thing probably immediately comes to mind…that slide part. Slide users have started reporting problems with the new Sidekick turning off or spontaneously rebooting after sliding. The problem is made even worse by the loss of data on the phone until you can download it all again. Any Slide owners out there seen this issue first hand?

Motorola Sidekick Zante Details
Added on 2007-07-03 18:53:00
by Richard Baguley
Gizmodo has got the scoop on the details of the next generation sidekick; the Zante. If the details are correct, it looks like an interesting product; it has a slide-up 2.4-inch screen (instead of the rotating one that previous sidekicks have had) and is a quad-band GSM phone. However, it only has 128MB of RAM, a 1.3 megapixel camera and only has an EDGE data connection. Gizmodo claims their tipster says it'll be carried on T-Mobile, who are aiming for 5.9 hours of talk ti

Sidekick to get MySpace application
Added on 2007-06-18 09:16:00
by Randall Bennett
Helio won't be the only company with some MySpace action for the kids for long, as the Boy Genius Report uncovered an FAQ document revealing T-Mobile's Sidekick will get its own MySpace application. Current SK3 and SK ID users should be able to install it in the near future from the Sidekick catalog, and BGR says the app should come pre-installed on the next-gen Sidekick Zante.
The app gives MySpace addicts a BlackBerry-esque approach to the social networking behemoth's system, allowing for instant notification of new comments, friend requests, messages and photo comments. Doesn't look like the app shows off those painfully ugly custom profiles, since it's merely extracting profile information, but users will be able to see how many of their friends are online, add photos and otherwise participate in the MySpace community. No word on exactly when the app will hit the Sidekick catalog, but seeing how the FAQ is already on T-Mo's site, it should be fairly soon.

Sidekick ID Photo & Review On The Way?

Looks like someone got lucky: Gizmodo is reporting that a former editor of theirs has a Sidekick ID, the new low-end sidekick that’s rumored to be on the way from T-Mobile. We’ve covered the rumors before: the new Sidekick ID will apparently cost $99 (after rebates) and will be available soon. They don’t say who it is, but they do hint that a review is on the way soon. We’ll bring you more on this when they post it.

Leaked T Mobile Presentation Hints at New Sidekick
Added on 2007-03-22 08:38:00

Hiptop 3 have what they claim is a slide leaked from a T-mobile presentation which hints at another new Sidekick. We covered the Sidekick ID yesterday, but this slide mentions the “Sidekick X RAZR Multimedia Device”, which seems to be another product. The slide is branded with the Danger, Motorola and Asurion (who offer handset insurance programs) logos, but doesn’t give any more details of the new product. The obvious inference is that the new Sidekick would be made or branded by Motorola as part of their Razr range, which would imply that it may share the same characteristics of the Razrs (like the Razr v3m that we reviewed here); small, thin and stylish. It also seems to imply that the Sidekick may be going international: at the moment, it’s only available in a handful of countries outside of the USA. The slide also contains the odd phrase “Breach & Security additions to maximize our network”; it seems that the ghost of Paris Hilton is still walking the corridors of T Mobile.
We'll investigate further and see if there is any truth to this leaked slide.

Leaked Photo of New Sidekick ID
Added on 2007-03-21 11:34:00

CrunchGear has a photo of what appears to be the rumored new Sidekick: they claim that the Sidekick ID will be launched in the summer and will sell for $149 with a 2-year contract. It looks to be smaller than the Sidekick 3, and will have a new menu system and a trackball instead of the D-pad present on the Sidekick 3, although it is not clear if this is a pre-production model or not.
What it won’t have is a number of features that the Sidekick 3 has, including Bluetooth, a camera, MicroSD slot and an MP3 player. Still, most users won’t miss these, and it looks like it might be an interesting device for those who are looking for a simple device to help keep in touch; CrunchGear claim it will include an IM client that can handle AIM, Yahoo! and MSN as well as the standard email client that has been present on all of the Sidekicks. Oh and it will work as a phone, too.
