Sprint + Sanyo release three low-enders for the kids
Added on 2007-06-20 12:56:00
by Randall Bennett
Sanyo and Sprint continue their BFF relationship with Sanyo's new SCP-3200 phones. They're pretty standard low-end phones likely targeted toward family plans, but they've got GPS, Bluetooth, and a VGA camera and while they're not decked out in features, their outward appearance is decent. The devices hit stores today, and are $50 with a two-year agreement (plus a $20 rebate we spied online,) or $200 if you're buying them without a contract.

Added on 2007-04-05 03:16:00
by Robert S. Anthony
Life for the average cell phone is tough enough with bouts with spilled coffee and fumble-fingered owners, but Sanyo’s new SCP-7050 handset is designed to survive conditions far worse than those found in the average home or office.
The ruggedized, 4.1-ounce handset offers up to 4.4 hours of talk time and complies with military standards (MIL-STD-810F) for dust resistance and survival from shocks and vibrations.

Sanyo Building Dual Mode CDMA/WiMAX handsets
Added on 2007-03-20 14:27:00
by Richard Baguley
Although cell phones that include WiFi data connections are nothing new, this is. Sanyo are building handsets that include the new WiMAX wireless standard. This new standard has better range than the existing wireless LAN standards; while 802.11g only works within a few meters of the access point, WiMAX can cover several city blocks with a single transmitter, and the system still works if there are obstructions between the transmitter and the receiver. Although the announcement (which was made by Beceem, who make the WiMAx chip that Sanyo are using) didn’t mention which network may be using the new handset, it is most likely to be Sprint, who recently announced that they are spending $3 billion dollars over the next few years building a WiMAX network. Sprint already sell the Sanyo M1, which we reviewed here.
