Added on 2008-03-31 12:59:00
by Mark Brezinski

As you may or may not be aware, all of us at WirelessInfo are currently in Las Vegas for CTIA 2008. Since chances are that you, our readership, is not here, we are prepared to cover 110% of this year's show, in an effort to provide the most comprehensive coverage possible. Now, you might have simply written off that 110% as a clichéd hyperbole, but we meant what we said. Where, you may ask, will we dredge up that additional 10% of coverage? Pizza.

Confused? Read on -- if you dare.

Poll: Should phones be allowed in-flight?
Added on 2007-07-16 14:01:00
by Randall Bennett

We wrote earlier about the European Aviation Safety Agency's program to allow phones to be used during flights, and the Telegraph in the UK has some pretty irate readers writing in to let them know they don't support talking while flying.

An informal poll of our office finds roughly the same result, although we wouldn't be opposed to data usage.  What do you think though, should talking while flying be allowed?

Cell phones on a plane!: Airbus gets approval in Europe
Added on 2007-06-19 14:28:00
by Randall Bennett

Uh oh... European airline passengers' dreams of flying the quiet skies might be on their way out as AirBus just received approval for an on-board mobile phone system from the EASA, the European Aircraft Safety Agency (think FAA for Europe.) Apparently, the crew on each flight can set the system to only accept data transmissions (aka "Quiet mode") and everyone will just have to listen to thumb-board clicking, as opposed to the outright yapping of current public transit.  Right now the system is only being rolled out in smaller aircraft designed for short-haul flights, so only an hour of annoyance instead of six.
