WildCharger Gets Pricing And Availability
Added on 2007-07-08 19:03:00
by Richard Baguley

We've mentioned the Wildcharger before; it's a new charger that charges your cell phone or iPod through contact with a special pad. You attach a special back to the device, and you can then charge it by just dropping it onto the pad; no more cables and wall warts. They've just announced pricing and availability for the charger and backs; a bundle of the charger and the back for a GSM RAZR will cost you $89.95, and will be available in July. They are also offering an adapter for the iPod nano, which will cost $34.99 and will be out in August, with other devices coming soon. Will the lack of cables justify the cost? We'll have to wait and see, but we'll be bringing you a review of the unit as soon as we can.

Power your devices without wires (sort of)
Added on 2007-06-13 16:21:00
by Randall Bennett

The last hurdle over making wireless phones truly wireless would be cutting the charging cord. WildCharge is making progress toward a wire-free future with their inductive charging solution, but since this isn't contactless charging, you're still stuck lugging around an inductive charging mat. The WildCharger sits on your desk, waiting to power your favorite mobile devices using custom mounts that plug directly into your mobile phone, portable media player and ideally any other mobile device you've got lying around.

The good part? Devices should charge just as they would if you plugged them into the wall without any ill electromagnetic side effects (read: your data is safe.)  The bad part? The mounts look to pack on the (relative) pounds and give them a bit more hefty look.  Take a look at the iPod Nano in the picture and notice it's basically double the size of the original Nano. No fun for the truly slim, but luckily the phone mounts don't look as hefty in the picture, but more along the lines of a traditional belt clip.

The WildCharger launches on July 7th but doesn't have any pricing information as of yet, except the company says it'll be competitive with other charging solutions.  Interesting? Sure, but we'll reserve judgment till after we see more of the mounts.

Rivals Turn up the Heat on the iPhone
Added on 2007-04-14 20:57:00
by Rusty Weiss

With so much anticipation surrounding the iPhone launch later this year, one has to wonder if the device can ever live up to the hype.

As the following article sees things, it simply has to.

While Steve Jobs refers to the iPhone as ‘Apple’s best-ever iPod,’ sporting beautiful design and an iconic brand name, and has been the focus of the companies near-future (see Leopard), there are still forces in the industry that could present problems.

Cell phones, despite their mp3 capabilities, have long been limited by storage capacity, or the lack thereof. The landscape it is a-changin’.

Really need to get your hands on the Blackberry Pearl, but unable to choose from the color selection? How does a pure white Pearl hit you?

In a move seemingly designed to emulate the iPod, T-Mobile is offering a white version of the Blackberry Pearl. While this release is merely adding a pretty color to an already popular line, there is something more interesting to be read here.
