Another new iPhone ad hit the airwaves (or cable...waves....) today on CNBC touting the iPhone's internet abilities. The spot (YouTube'd after the break for your viewing pleasure) claims the browser isn't surfing any sort of mobile web, but instead surfing the real web. To us, surfing the "real web" can't be too fun with that 2.5G EDGE connection *zing!* but we're sure the experience looks good. Just wait till we get our hands on the phone June 29th... then we'll know how great it truly is.
More mobile stats, but this time not relating to the porcelain throne. US mobile web usage tripled in the last year, according to mobile web provider Bango. The company says the SanyoKatana was the top phone browsing the mobile web in the first quarter of 2007, which is only available in the US. Worldwide, the US ranks second with 21 percent of the mobile web market, trailing the UK with 27 percent. Bango also says flat-rate pricing for data plans is leading to the shift in mobile web usage, and more competitive pricing among US carriers should see even more mobile web adoption.
Alltel has started charging users of it's Alltel U Prepaid service for data applications. Alltel U customers have previously been able to use Alltel's Axcess Apps at no charge, now they will be billed $.15 per minute for data use the same as the price for voice calls with the plan.
