Looks like India will soon beat the US in mobile telephony and will become the second-largest wireless market in the world after China by April 2008. According to the data compiled by telecom regulator TRAI, in February alone India had 8.53 million new mobile users.
“India’s monthly wireless subscriber addition is the highest in the range of 8-9 million. Thus, India’s wireless subscriber base during the first half of April 2008 will surpass that of the US and become the second-largest wireless network in the world. Not only this, the total subscriber base (wireless plus fixed line) of India will also cross the 300-million mark in April 2008,” TRAI said in a statement.
Nowadays cell phone virus’s are not exceptionally prevalent. There are a few who cause cell phone to make unwanted calls and send expensive messages. Most security holes however are very quickly fixed. As new open platforms such as Android start popping up cellphone virus’s are a somewhat growing concern.
According to a Gizmodo poll (still in the works) 2/3 of people use their cellphone to tell the time rather than a wristwatch. Current results of the poll have the cellphone pulling in close to 63% of the votes with the wristwatch coming in a 33% and no watch at 4.4%.

For many of us, traveling by air means being at the mercy of the mind-numbing inflight programming for entertainment. The company announced that their passengers would soon be able to use their mobile phones and connect to the Internet during flights thanks to the Swiss-based technology firm OnAir.
Shenzhen Airlines President Li Kun said: "We are very proud to be the first airline in China to provide passengers with the ability to communicate during flights."
Another new mid-range handset announced by Nokia is the Nokia 6121 classic which supports quadband GSM and WCDMA 900/2100 technology. One will also be privy to multimedia features like; 2MP and a VGA Camera, support for HSDPA technology and video support. The Nokia 6121 will retail for UR 260, before taxes and subsidies.

Sony may well have crushed the dreams of thousands of PSP Fanboys by dismissing the PSP Phone. The company denied that it’s developing a cell phone based on the PSP model even though it did file a U.S. patent for a cell phone with gaming functionality.
Sony Ericsson spokeswoman, Merran Wrigley was heard saying:
“We’re continually evaluating other propositions, but they have to be credible propositions. We’re not interested in sticking parts on phones that destroy the brand equity that’s been built up by Sony”.
Sharp Corporation recently announced the successful development of a 2,000,000 pixel auto focus CMOS camera module with an optical size only 1/4-inch in size. The LZ0P39DS module hence has the privilege of being the “industry's most compact, thinnest module” and is thus ideal for mobile phones. The module is also capable of achieving full-motion video capture at 15 frames per second (fps).
Casio Japan announced their new cellphone, the CDMA Casio W53CA. This one has a whopping 5-megapixel camera to its credit and looks like 1.3 MP cameras are passé! The handset will appeal to users with its slim clamshell design and multimedia features. Available in colors like Red, Black and White, the W53CA also includes a dedicated music player and up to 2GB of storage capacity.
IAC/InterActiveCorp unveiled their new mobile phone service, Ask Mobile GPS," which will be available on the Sprint Nextel Corp Network. One can subscribe to the service for $9.99 per month and users can then access maps and other location-based services via their cellphones.
Another phone to be announced by the folks at Sony Ericsson is the T650 which seeks inspiration from Mother Nature! With illumination effects, stainless steel finish and scratch-proof mineral glass, this one looks like a keeper! The T650 has been equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera and the 3G handset includes Bluetooth, Music Player, Video Blogging support, memory card slot and 3D games. Nokia continues its love affair with affordable yet functional handsets with the Nokia 2505.
