Vodaphone lineup leak
Added on 2008-01-06 14:05:00
by Mark Brezinski

The astute guys at Boy Genius eagle-eyed a few new handsets Vodaphone name-dropped in a presentation. Fortunately for us and you, noble reader, they posted the slides. There was a mystery handset (pictured right) as well as two handsets each from Nokia, BlackBerry, HP, and Palm.

The Nokia phones were the E66 (Dora), and E71 (Liam). Logic dictates the E66 is a sequel to the E65. This means it's likely to have great enterprise software, VOIP and SIP capabilities (so you can forward desk calls to your VOIP), and, more than likely, Nokia's garbage 2-Megapixel camera.

The two BlackBerry devices were the Pearl 8110 and a mysterious 8000 series device that was previously fabled as a flagship 9000 series device.

HP's handsets are the Silver and Oak. Both will run Windows Mobile and have GPS and wi-fi.

Palm's devices, the Drucker and Wanda, will also run Windows Mobile and sport GPS. The Drucker will have wi-fi. The Wanda looks suspiciously like the Treo 500v.

Say hello to Pearl two?

With the Pearl seeing widespread success (including a place in my pocket) the newly leaked specs of the Pearl 2 look to improve upon what the Pearl started, and if true, improve well.  The rumored specs include many media centric features, like a 3.5mm headphone jack, A2DP support (for Stereo Bluetooth headphones,) support for WMA DRM (no word on PlaysForSure, but we'll assume) external MicroSD slot and support for streaming media.  Beyond the media highlights, the device is rumored to sport a 3.2 megapixel camera, improved flash and come in some new colors (like the pictured blue, which we think is a render.)  BGR reports RIM is planning a huge marketing campaign for the device, but something tells us that if they deliver on these rumored specs, we'll be sold (again) with or without marketing.  Keep in mind this is contrary from the specs we heard earlier, but we're fans of fixing the major shortcomings of a device before promising a major overhaul, so no biggie.

Rumored iPhone launch details
Added on 2007-06-15 13:48:00
by Randall Bennett

Just in case you've been waiting with baited breath like we have for the iPhone launch plan, apparently Boy Genius once again grabbed the early word.  His typically reliable sources are saying the store will be open normally, then close at 4:30pm.  During the 4:30 to 6:00 window, the phones should be delivered as well as displays set out during that time.  His sources also report the stores should stay open as late as midnight to account for the rush.

We'll see more when it happens on June 29th, and trust us, we'll be first in line to get our hands on the phone.

AT&T's internal iPhone talking points leaked
Added on 2007-06-06 12:33:00
by Randall Bennett

The Boy Genius, as usual, found some inside info on AT&T's internal talking points regarding, you guessed it, the iPhone.  Nothing too ground breaking here, but it does confirm some of our questions and leave us with more.  One bullet point that caught our eye: "Access to MyAccount via the device and the iTunes site, allowing customers complete ability to manage their AT&T service." Sounds like iPhone purchasers can manage their AT&T account through an addition to iTunes.

Other thought provoking points? No exact details on service plans available for the device, prompting speculation about an "iPhone plan" including data, although we're more inclined to think it's something inline with MEdiaNet plans already available.
