fring has released new fringAdd-on applications, which further enhance the fring mobile experience. The fringAdd-ons are free and include mobile versions of social networks, video streaming and email notification applications directly from within fring. For now fring only supports all Symbian S60, Windows Mobile and Sony Ericsson UIQ devices

RIM Launch $150 Million Mobile App Fund

RIM, RBC and Thomson Reuters announced a $150 million venture capital fund which would be open to all mobile platforms including mobile commerce, vertical and horizontal enterprise applications, communications, social networking etc. The Fund is to be co-managed by JLA Ventures and RBC Venture Partners.

Bell Announces BlackBerry Unite!

Bell recently announced the availability of BlackBerry(R) Unite!(TM) software. A free download that runs on a PC, the Unite provides small groups of up to five BlackBerry  users with mobile access to email, web browsing, a shared calendar, shared contacts, pictures, documents, and other desktop computer content.

BlackBerry Unite! is available as of today for Bell customers to download at bell.ca/unite.

Tellme Launches Voice Search for BlackBerry

Tellme, a Microsoft Corp.'s subsidiary launched a voice search application for the BlackBerry smartphones. Using their voice one can search for information pertaining to businesses, movie times or even traffic.

On downloading the application, a user has to push on their phone's green "talk" button and say either the name of a business, type of business, or the keywords "weather," "movies," "traffic," "map" or "driving directions."

Netblender's BD Touch Adds Blu-Ray Functionality to iPhone

BD Touch by Netblender is an application which enables  two-way communication between Apple’s iPhone and supported Blu-ray players like the PS3. However to achieve this neat phenomena, the Blu-ray disc has to be authored with the BD Touch feature set by using the DoStudio BD Authoring Edition Software Developers Kit (SDK) .

Sprint WebCapTel Service Launched

Sprint has released a new service keeping in mind the needs of its customers who are hard of hearing. The Sprint WebCapTel is a free web-based service that allows a person who can speak but has challenges hearing over the phone, to read word-for-word captions of their calls on a web browser.

This free service is available for Sprint customers anywhere in the United States and within US Territories. However, calls to or from international locations, such as Canada or Mexico, are not available. To learn more about this free service, visit www.sprintcaptel.com

Bebo, Kadoink Collaborate for Music, Chat

Bebo, the social networking site has added Kadoink's Music Call and Group BuzzText widgets to its Open Application Platform.  By collaborating with Kadoink, Bebo subscribers can now embed these widgets on their web pages.

Via the Music Call widget, Bebo subscribers can share audio clips on mobile phones by text messaging.  Where as the Group BuzzText widget helps in creating texting groups for mobile chats.

"Our Open Application approach will help enrich the overall Bebo experience while at the same time offering new ways for partners to become actively engaged with our audience," said Michael Birch, CEO and co-founder of Bebo.

Run Vista Sideshow on iPhone

iPhone users can now run the Vista SideShow feature via a new application developed by Go Gadgets. One can sign up for the Beta version and for more details visit VistaSquad.

For the uninitiated; SideShow  can access certain core features without fully booting the system. SideShow can also drive the display of PC data on mobile phones and other devices that are connected via Bluetooth or other wireless network protocols.

AT&T Expands Wireless Offerings for Customers With Disabilities

AT&T Inc. announced new applications for visually impaired subscribers. The Mobile Speak and Mobile Magnifier applications support both Windows Mobile and Symbian Series 60 operating system devices and are each available for a one-time charge of $89.

Mobile Speak is a screen reader with an easy-to-learn command structure that even includes Braille support. Mobile Speak automatically detects information and is offered with a choice of three Text-To-Speech engines, Fonix, Acapela or Loquendo.

Where as the Mobile Magnifier is a full-screen magnification application that supports low- and high-resolution screens.

iPhone news roundup: MMS apps, unlocked iphones and software updates, oh my!

There's quite a few iPhone news floating around out there so here's a quick roundup of the stories for you. First up is a report from the BBC that 20% of the iPhones sold in France so far have been sold unlocked. Second are rumors that a 1.1.3 update is imminent and will bring with it USB mode and voice recording. Last up, a nice little tidbit for those brave souls who have hacked their iPhones. Check out these apps that allow you to address several of the messaging issues, including the ability to reply to an SMS, send one to multiple recipients and create, but not receive, MMS messages.

Nseries PC Suite 2.0. Now Available

Nokia Beta labs once again announced the availability of the Nseries PC Suite 2.0. The suite is still in Beta and is a collection of third-party PC applications and the updated version now comes with a web installer and includes support for Photos.

Navizon Virtual GPS For iPhone

Navizon, the Virtual GPS system is now iPhone compatible. Based on Navizon's Wifi and Cellular tower triangulation techniques, the application is also often referred to as the Peer to Peer positioning system. More information on Navizon can be found at http://www.navizon.com.

Sprint recently launched the Mobile Shopper Application, which lets Sprint subscribers shop and buy products from more than 30 online retailers via their mobile handsets. Sprint is the first U.S. wireless carrier to launch a mobile shopping portal and one can set up a Mobile Shopper account right on their phone or on a PC at www.sprint.com/mobileshopper

Nokia Releases Mail For Exchange 2.0

Nokia has upgraded its Mail for Exchange application to version 2.0. and one can download it  from the Nokia Business Software web site. Via this popular application users can connect to Microsoft Exchange servers and the latest version also lets one synchronize tasks between the server and the smartphone. Version 2.0 is compatible with most of Nokia's E Series and N Series smartphones and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2 and later.
