Palm Confirms Rumor - the Treo 750 Will Be WM6 Enabled

Late today, the team at Palm has confirmed the rumors that the Treo 750 will receive an update to Windows Mobile 6 during 2007. A sneak peek at a press release scheduled for tomorrow's wire provided by a Palm spokesman also indicates that Cingular/AT&T Treo customers will have an upgrade to HSDPA (High Speed Down-link Packet Access) technology as well. This will provide much greater download speeds for data users over the new 3G networks.
Windows Mobile 6 promises users that they will be able to maximize the benefits of new, mobile versions of traditional Microsoft applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint. This new release will enable HTML-formatted emails through integration with the MS Exchange Server 2007 as well as live links to Microsoft Sharepoint documents. Additional security enhancements, integration with Windows Live, and the ability to send emails using Microsoft's Direct Push Technology are more reasons that this release has been so eagerly anticipated. And the large, vibrant Treo screen is the perfect showcase for this technology!
The Palm Treo 750 is already a sweet phone, and it just got sweeter with this news. Who needs a laptop computer anymore?
No estimated dates for this release were given by the Palm team - only that it would be happening in 2007.

Cingular's Treo 750, Blackjack, and 8525 Rumored to Carry WM6 Soon

Last month, Microsoft Senior VP, Pieter Knook, unofficially announced during the 3GSM show that the Palm Treo 750 was scheduled for a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade - soon. Around the same time frame, a MobilitySite blogger posted two photos of the Palm Treo running WM6.
Today, Engadget has reported seeing an internal AT&T presentation that show not only the Treo 750 being WM6 enabled via a downloadable update, but also the Cingular/AT&T Blackjack and the 8525 as well. All new phones in 2007 are rumored to come with WM6 preinstalled.
From Engadget:
In a separate tip, our peeps tell us that the Blackjack update should be in Cingular's hot hands by May 26; with an expected eight week soak period for testing, this could hit by late July this year.
Windows Mobile 6 has received high praise from reviewers, and is said to be faster, better, and more connected to traditional Microsoft applications than WM5.
