Family Sues Virgin Mobile
Added on 2007-09-21 07:26:00
by Tanya Palta

A Dallas family who claim that Virgin Mobile Australia have used their daughter’s picture from Flickr without the family's consent has sued the company. Alice Chang is the teen in question and her photo was part of a Virgin Mobile Australia campaign called "Are You With Us Or What?" It features pictures downloaded from Flickr superimposed with the company's ad slogans.

In the ad, Virgin Mobile printed one of its campaign slogans, "Dump your pen friend," over Alison's picture. The ad also says "Free text virgin to virgin" at the bottom.

The Chang family have filed a lawsuit in state district court in Dallas which names virgin Mobile USA LLC, its Australian counterpart, and Creative Commons Corp., a Massachusetts nonprofit that licenses sharing of Flickr photos, as defendants.

Virgin Mobile has finally gone the Bluetooth way and boy do we stress on finally. The network launched its first Bluetooth phone, the Super Slice from UTStarcom, which should be available from mid-September for $59.99. The Slice includes a VGA camera and is just 0.4 inch thin. All we can say is that Super Slice is Super Late.

Virgin Shuts Mobile TV Service
Added on 2007-07-27 11:19:00
by Tanya Palta

Virgin Mobile has decided to pull the plug on its mobile television service early next year, as its partnership with BT is coming to an end. BT themselves have decided to shut off the BT Movio business .

“BT can confirm that, following a review of its wholesale solutions, the decision has been made not to continue with the Movio service," said the telco in an official announcement.

"While the feedback from users on the service has been complimentary, Movio sales have been slower than expected, mainly due to a lack of compatible devices from the big brands."

The good folks at Cnet were able to get their grubby hands on the Kyocera Marbl (K127) and lets just see what they had to say about it! The phone scored some brownie points for its intuitive interface and its decent phone quality! However the lack of an external display and limited ringtone selection made it score less on their charts!

O2, T-Mobile and Virgin Interested In Mobile Advertising
Added on 2007-03-12 22:28:00
by Tanya Palta

Love them or hate them but there is no escaping advertisements! If you thought your mobiles were a safe haven from ads, think again! Looks like, O2, T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile are thinking of introducing advertising to their mobile video and internet portals. This is not new as one saw Nokia launching two mobile advertising services, a couple of months ago!

Tom Henriksson, director of Nokia Ad Service, said: "As advertisers struggle with targeting in traditional media such as print and TV, mobile advertising is becoming an increasingly attractive channel for brands."
