According to Financial Times, Virgin Mobile is looking to acquire Helio, which is 69 percent owned by South Korea's SK Telecom Co. The partnership aims at boosting the performance of both companies.
"Although there's no guarantee that the combined company will succeed, it's still a good move as SK Telecom can reduce risks from the U.S. business," said Lee Shi-hoon, an analyst at Hyundai Securities. "Virgin Mobile has a scale and Helio has strong services, so the combination can work."

LG's Aloha hits Virgin Mobile
Added on 2007-08-16 15:18:00
by Randall Bennett
Just in case you don't have too much scratch to spare on a celly, LG has some love for you with a $35 clamshell hitting Virgin Mobile in September. The MVNO that could is launching the device that, unsurprisingly, doesn't do much more than make phone calls. Still, with voice dialing and a speakerphone, the LG Aloha is still better than a lot of phones put out two years ago, and hey, it outdoes the iPhone's non-existent voice dialing. Hear that Apple? A $35 phone has voice dialing, and your wonderPhone doesn't.
