Hands-on pics of the new Chocolate
Added on 2007-07-10 15:30:00
by Randall Bennett

Lookee what we got here... the latest edition of LG's hit, the Chocolate.  The new model is definitely more milk chocolate than its semi-sweet predecessor, ditching the touch sensitive send and end buttons on the exterior and moving them underneath the slide.  Also moving from good to better, the update adds a physical scroll wheel surrounded by LEDs instead of the touch sensitive arrow keys, which looks great and seems to work pretty nicely.  Not all touch sensitive buttons are gone though, with a clear and speaker phone button replacing send and end, and the phone retains two touch sensitive soft keys on the exterior.  The phone adds in some "faux tactility," vibrating whenever touch sensitive buttons are pressed. We'll have our full review up later, but while you're waiting check out our mini-gallery of pics after the break (click "Read More.)

The new Chocolate hit Verizon today with three different colors, and you can get it for $249 under a two-year contract.

Verizon Launches First Ever Mobile Game Show for V-Cast Subscribers
Added on 2007-03-24 17:58:00
by Brenda Keener

Verizon Wireless and Limbo Mobile have teamed up this week to present the first mobile game show - available to V-Cast subcribers and played by texting bids in auctions.  Bids are placed in pennies, and to win, you need to have placed the "lowest unique bid" for the item being auctioned off.   Today's featured prize is a Samsung 50" HDTV - and lots of other hot prizes have been offered since the midweek launch. I am not a Verizon subscriber, but if I were,I am sure that this new show would entice me to waste time bidding!

The show is hosted by Tina-Louise Eckert, and texting bids is free through Verizon.  What will they do next to keep us glued to our mobile phones?

Verizon Wireless Launches V-Cast TV in Select Markets
Added on 2007-03-09 13:05:00
by Brenda Keener

The first commercially available mobile television service in the United States, V-Cast Mobile TV, has been launched by Verizon March 1st in these markets: Albuquerque, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New Orleans, Norfolk-Richmond, Omaha-Lincoln, Palm Springs, Portland (Oregon), Salt Lake City, Sante Fe, Seattle, Spokane, St. Louis, Tuscon, and Wichita.  The line-up includes a live feed from MTV clearly targeted to the younger set, CBS, NBC, NBC News, ESPN, Fox, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central.

Picture quality is alleged to be the same as broadcast quality, and pricing is at $25/month for current mobile Internet subscribers ($5/month) who also subscribe to Verizon’s video service ($15/month). A limited version is available for $13/month.

It uses Qualcomm’s Mediaflo technology which eliminates the long download times associated with earlier versions of mobile media. Currently, it only works on the Samsung SCH-U620 handset, but it is clear bet that Verizon will offer it on more handsets in the near future.
