Amp'd Mobile Announces Q2 Launch of SpongeBob SquarePants Channel, Nickelodeon Mobile Up Now

New programming from MTV and Nickelodeon Mobile to include the popular teen channel "The N" will air over Amp'd Mobile services starting this week, and a dedicated SpongeBob SquarePants channel will be aired Q2 2007 according to an announcement from MTV and Amp'd Mobile.
A SpongeBob SquarePants channel could actually keep my 9 year old still for an entire dentists appointment, or a doctor's office waiting room experience! Many parents should be looking forward to this for the above reasons, as well as the complete elimination of the phrase " Are we there yet?" from roadtrip experiences with kids.
From the press release:
The SpongeBob SquarePants Amp'd TV channel will feature full length episodes from the number-one series on cable television for kids. Launched in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has since emerged as a pop culture phenomenon and one of the most popular series in kids' television history. Nearly 67.2 million viewers tune into the show each month, including 32.8 million Adults 18+. (Source: Nielsen Cume Data - November 2006).
Although Amp'ed is the newcomer on the block as a cellular service provider, they seem to be hitting the sweet spot when it comes to mobile entertainment.

by Brenda Keener
The first commercially available mobile television service in the United States, V-Cast Mobile TV, has been launched by Verizon March 1st in these markets: Albuquerque, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New Orleans, Norfolk-Richmond, Omaha-Lincoln, Palm Springs, Portland (Oregon), Salt Lake City, Sante Fe, Seattle, Spokane, St. Louis, Tuscon, and Wichita. The line-up includes a live feed from MTV clearly targeted to the younger set, CBS, NBC, NBC News, ESPN, Fox, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central.
Picture quality is alleged to be the same as broadcast quality, and pricing is at $25/month for current mobile Internet subscribers ($5/month) who also subscribe to Verizon’s video service ($15/month). A limited version is available for $13/month.
It uses Qualcomm’s Mediaflo technology which eliminates the long download times associated with earlier versions of mobile media. Currently, it only works on the Samsung SCH-U620 handset, but it is clear bet that Verizon will offer it on more handsets in the near future.
