For the uninitiated; SideShow  can access certain core features without fully booting the system. SideShow can also drive the display of PC data on mobile phones and other devices that are connected via Bluetooth or other wireless network protocols.

Steve Jobs may be keeping the iPhone on a tight lease however that doesn’t mean we cant have some fun. The PSX4iPhone is the latest iPhone application on the block, which lets you load and play ROMs for original Playstation games. This nifty little application also works on the iPod touch and the analog control sticks have been replaced with two virtual D-pads. To download the application head over here.

iPhone hacks: We iP0wn the iPhone
Added on 2007-07-13 17:36:00
by Randall Bennett

We told you earlier about the iPhone hack to add custom ringtone support to the device, and now we've gone and hacked it ourselves.  The result?  Custom ringtones, but we did screw up our second attempt since we sent an old configuration file to the device.  All in all, we did end up succeeding without further compromising the phone.  Check out the video embedded below:

Sprint insider: "We were LITERALLY paying these customers to use our service."
Added on 2007-07-12 09:43:00
by Randall Bennett

The Consumerist scored an excellent interview with a Sprint "insider" regarding the 1,000 or so forced terminations.  The person says they essentially "fired" their worst customers, customers who called in to complain or get free minutes on a daily basis, and the insider doesn't feel bad about it either.  The insider really explains things from Sprint's perspective, and most rational consumers will likely agree with Sprint's perspective, but getting the bad news that someone wants to break up with you, no matter how much you "hate them", still might sting a little, especially if you've been scamming them out of hundreds or thousands of minutes.

First custom ringtone on the iPhone
Added on 2007-07-12 09:01:00
by Randall Bennett

Looks like someone figured out how to get a custom ringtone on the iPhone, without Apple's help.  The YouTube poster doesn't list any specifics on how he got the old-school office phone ringtone on the phone, but we're guessing it has something to do with everyone figuring out the filesystem hacks.  We've embedded the video after the break, and keep in mind this could just be a hoax.  We'll see when more people start figuring out the hack.

iPhone developers meetup
Added on 2007-06-25 11:18:00
by Randall Bennett

Regardless of whether the iPhone supports "true" third-party applications or not, some enterprising development-types are planning a meetup to help develop applications specifically for the device.  The meetup takes place in a "BarCamp" style event, where there aren't any specific presenters, but rather people volunteer to help lead sessions.  The whole thing is being sponsored by Adobe, and happens in their San Francisco offices.  We'd love to see some proper iPhone hacks come out of this event, and who knows, maybe they'll even figure out some extra internal knowledge of the device.  If you want to participate, they've set up a wiki where you can find out more information.
