New Palm Centro On Sprint Details Revealed
Added on 2007-09-27 10:33:00
by Richard Baguley

Whoops: looks like Sprint and Palm managed to scoop themselves, as the site for the new Palm Centro went live hours before their press conference announcing the new phone in New York. The site doesn't reveal the full specs of the new smart phone, but we do know that it will cost $99.99, after a $100 mail-in rebate. It looks to be exactly the same phone that PC Mag cell phone writer  Sascha Seagan got some hands-on time with a month or so back, when he described it as having”"the tiniest QWERTY keyboard I've ever seen. It's infinitesimal: it's actually impossible to type on this thing with two thumbs."  We'll bring you the full details of the new phone when they are released; right now, the site just lists a few teaser details and the price.

Official looking Palm Centro pics leaked

More "official" looking pics of the upcoming Palm Centro (aka Palm Gandolf) for Sprint have been leaked. We have to admit that the device looks much nicer this time around than the previous fuzzy pics, but of course if this is an official photo Palm's PR people have gotten a chance to pretty it up some. We'll wait until we have one in for review before we make a final call though, it's expected to be available via Sprint.

Sprint To Carry Palm Gandolf, Rename it Centro
Added on 2007-08-16 21:16:00
by Richard Baguley

The Palm Gandolf/Treo 800 just got official; Sasha Segan at GearLive got the scoop at a Sprint event that the new device now seems to be called the Palm Centro, and Sprint will be carrying it. He got some hands-on time with the device, and wasn't that impressed; he described the keyboard as having "the tiniest QWERTY keyboard I've ever seen. It's infinitesimal: it's actually impossible to type on this thing with two thumbs." Sprint pointed out that it's being aimed at the youth market, and that kids these days have smaller, quicker fingers than cranky old men like Segan, but we remain to be convinced that it will actually be usable by anybody over the age of 5. The price is kid friendly at $99, which puts it right up against the Sidekick iD. Look out for it this fall, but it remains to be seen if your kids will thank you for buying them a phone that looks like it shrank in the wash when all their friends have iPhones.
