by Tanya Palta
The iPhone inspite of all the hype has its own share of critics (that’s an under statement). John Carmack who has iconic games like “Doom” and “Quake, to his credit expressed his frustration over Apple’s attitude towards game developers.
“I have an iPhone right now and it’s a platform I would enjoy developing for but Apple is not taking progressing steps in regards to [gaming],” Carmack is quoted as saying.
Carmack said that he’s expressed his concerns to Jobs, “so [Apple] are at least aware of all of them, but they’re not giving any spectacular signs that it’s going to be a big deal for them in the next year.”

Sure there are quite a few iPhone games out there, but none of them work when you’re in that metro station /airport/house where you get spotty reception with AT&T. Now coming to your rescue is the game Lights Off. Lights Off is a simple third-party game you can install directly on your iPhone and play when the internet just isn’t a possibility. In order to install the game you’ll have to jailbreak your phone but installation over all is pretty simple. You can score the game and some installation instructions here.

Finally, Bejeweled hits iPhone
Added on 2007-07-30 11:27:00
by Randall Bennett
It's the day iPhone users have been waiting for since the June 29th launch, Bejeweled is finally available for the iPhone. Popcap did a good job of redirecting the iPhone directly to Bejeweled and the interface looks really well done. You'd better enjoy bejeweled in Portrait mode, because Landscape makes the game slow down quite a bit. Hit PopCap.com on your iPhone's web browser and start enjoying the Yoshi's Cookie ripoff in all of its glory. No word yet on when Tetris will come to the iPhone to ruin Bejeweled's day, but we're hoping Apple's prior agreement with EA for iPod games comes to the iPhone.
