Apple to allow subsidized iPhones?
Added on 2008-06-08 21:42:00
by Alfredo Padilla

A report out of the Financial Times once again brings up the idea that Apple will allow carriers to begin subsidizing the price of the iPhone (review) beginning with the new 3G version that should be released later this month and announced tomorrow. Apple had previously required carriers to sell the iPhone at full price and required carrier partners to share a portion of the monthly revenues from iPhone carriers. It may be that resistance from many carriers to such a model has led Apple to change their approach in an effort to ensure that the iPhone is sold in as many markets as possible.
