Sony K850 Reviewed

MobileBurn has a review up of the Sony Ericsson K850 handset. Overall they thought the handset has tons of great features: MP3 player, Bluetooth, HSDPA and does a great job with things like audio quality, reception, and battery life. They didn’t like the handsets touch sensitive keys or the handsets web browser, but not enough to not give the handset a “Highly Recommended” rating. The Sony Ericsson Z750i, which includes support for HSDPA, is now available on Fido. The handset is retailing for $100 after a 3-year contract and a $100 rebate.

Sony Ericsson Working on a New Technology

Sony Ericsson on Wednesday will announced a new technology which will combine Adobe's Flash Lite and Java ME into a single Java application said Ulf Wretling, director of Sony Ericsson Developer World. This means that both technologies can compensate for each others shortcomings.

 "They can mix and match," said Wretling. "A Java application can utilize graphics and UI components both from Java and from Flash."

Sony Ericsson announces two new handsets

Sony Ericsson just announced two mid-ranged handsets. The Z780 and G502. The Z780 will have Google Maps, aGPS navigation. The G502 also has maps but doesn’t have aGPS. Both handsets have M2 memory expansion, Bluetooth, and a 2 megapixel camera.

Sony Ericsson G700 Approved by FCC

The Sony Ericsson G700 will soon be hitting the US shores as it was spotted at the FCC archives. The 3G phone comes equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera in addition to a VGA camera for video-conferencing. The phone supports MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV9 and Sony Ericsson has also thrown in a stylus for those who love their touch-screens.

The sharp-eyed folks at Phone Mag spotted an AT&T logo in the menu of the much-anticipated XPERIA X1 device. Which of course leads to one conclusion  that it would be AT&T carrying this uber-cool windows mobile device. Too early to make assumptions? Well only time will tell.

The Bluetooth Handsfree features an OLED display which shows the caller’s name while a voice announces it. Kevin O'Brien from Brighthand played around with the Xperia X1 and already is warning Apple to watch out! The smartphone has an incredible display and even the touch-screen was found to be extremely intuitive. Sony Ericsson really has a winner here according to Brien as even the build quality and the much touted home-layout doesn’t disappoint.

Sony Ericsson G700 and G900

At Barcelona, Spain Sony Ericsson unveiled two new touch screen based phones, the G700 and G900. The new cellphones claim to be an amalgamation of style and functionality as Sony is calling them “Touchscreen organisers”.

The G700 will launch in Silk Bronze and the G900 will launch in Dark Red and Dark Brown. Both are UMTS 2100 and GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 phones that will be available in selected markets from Q2 2008.

Sony Ericsson T270 & T280 Handsets

Sony Ericsson today announced the T270 and T280 mobile handsets which sport a candy-bar design and are seen as mid-entry phones. Features are identical to each barring the fact that the T280 includes a 1.3 MP camera.  Other specs include; Bluetooth connectivity, a dedicated musical player, support for GPRS and FM Radio. Both will be available in the first quarter of 2008.

Sony Ericsson sells over 100 Million Handsets in 2007

Sony Ericsson continues to make significant strides in the competitive mobile market. The company announced that they have sold over 100 million handsets in 2007 and gained market share during the quarter. Sony attributes their success to products like K550 Cyber-shot™ and the W200, W300 and W580 Walkman® phones in the Americas and Europe.

16 January 2008 Q4 Highlights:

    * 18% increase in volume year-on-year
    * Continued market share gains and profitable growth
    * Continued investment for the future

2007 Highlights:

    * Over 100 million units sold – more than double global market growth rate
    * Margins remain strong as company shifts to broader portfolio
    * Unit growth underpinned by increased sales of lower priced phones
    * 145 million music enabled phones sold to date, of which 57 million were Walkman® phones – maintaining leadership in music

There are some whispers about a new K850i Quicksilver Black cellphone on the horizon. Unfortunately the changes would just be cosmetic as only the trimmings will change from Luminous Green and Velvet Blue to a more staid silver.

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications recently announced that they have signed up Maria Sharapova, to become the company’s first global brand ambassador. The 4-year-old deal entails Maria promoting as well designing a range of products and accessories.

“Maria’s iconic status, determination, dynamism, success and charm match strongly with the Sony Ericsson brand, which prides itself on innovative and cool design with substance.” Said Dee Dutta, Corporate Vice President and Head of Marketing at Sony Ericsson.
