iPhone software update 1.01 is available

We just saw over on Howard Forums that the 1.01 update for the iPhone is now available for download and install. It looks like Apple wasn't kidding when they said there would be an update coming out soon, unfortunately it doesn't look like this update is going to bring any of the cool features we speculated about earlier today.

A sight for sore eyes was seeing that an update was indeed available. Unfortunately a version update of one hundredth doesn't seem to bring much with it, looks like they just patched the major hole that was found in Safari recently.

Download was only 7.1 Mb

The documentation didn't give us much information, click here for Apple's posted changelog.

Unfortunately after we downloaded and installed the update we found our iPhone going into recovery mode and had to download the entire recovery image and start from scratch. We're not sure if this is standard or a result of some, ahem, hacks that we've done. We'll see if we can get any of the hacks going with the new firmware update and update you with our results shortly.

Update: We've been able to use iFuntastic to hack the iPhone even after the update, so it looks like it really was limited to some Safari fixes.

Correction: It looks like we were wrong, the update seems to break jailbreak, if you'll pardon the pun, which means that the iPhone hacks won't be working. Hopefully our friendly neighborhood hackers will take care of it ASAP.

New Update: Ok, it looks like some weird stuff is going on here, as the strikethrough above probably indicates. It seems that one of our iPhones was restored to factory settings this morning and no other hacks had been applied to it. The experience with that phone was that the 1.01 update was quick and easy, and after it was installed we were able to use jailbreak via iFuntastic.

Our other phone had been hacked with iFuntastic and the hacks were in place when we tried to do the update. As discussed above we found that we had reflash the entire phone, and once we had it up and running again jailbreak and iFuntastic didn't work anymore.

Yeah, weird.

Last update (we promise): So we were able to get jailbreak and iFuntastic working with our problem iPhone again by simply doing a full restore. Kind of annoying but at least we got our custom ringtones back.
