iPhone Catches Fire When Opened

Let this be a lesson to those of you who were considering using the hardware hack to unlock your iPhone; if you aren't careful, the results can be unpleasant. Hackintosh forum member pipas claims that when a friend was opening their iPhone, it burst into flames, with the result you see on the right. My guess is that they managed to either short out or puncture the battery, both things which can quickly cause the battery to overheat, burst and catch on fire, pumping out large quantities of noxious smoke. Let this be a lesson to you; when you crack open the case, you are accessing something that can, if handled wrongly) have rather unpleasant consequences.
