June 9, 2008 - Apple today announced that the new iteration of their iPhone will be available worldwide on July 11th. The new version of the iPhone is little changed except for the addition of high speed data via 3G (third generation) cellular networks and GPS. The new iPhone will also see a price drop with the 8GB version available for $199 and the 16GB version available for $299. Apple also touched on the expected software update for the iPhone, which will be available in early July and unveiled a new service called Mobile Me.Mobile Me is a new online service that will allow users to synchronize contact, calendars, files and photos across computers and an iPhone. At today's event Apple demonstrated several new third party applications that will be built with the SDK they unveiled last March. Support for such applications will be enabled with the software update that will be available to all iPhones in early July.
Apple's shares were down almost eight dollars on the news.
