Will iPhone 3G Battery Changers Get Screwed?

The lack of a user-replaceable battery has always bugged even fervent iPhone fans, since it means no carrying a spare when you travel, and an $86 tab for an Apple-installed replacement when the original croaks. A sharp-eyed observer at iPhone Atlas, though, points out a potential improvement with the move to the iPhone 3G.

Next to the docking connector on the new iPhone are two small screws - there have never been visible screws on an iPhone or iPod. It also turns out that, unlike the first iPhone, the battery isn't soldered in place this time. That doesn't mean fumble-fingered fiddlers will be able to change their iPhone battery without a fight - it still requires a complex disassembly process, and will void the warranty. However, it is an intriguing change from the hermetically sealed cases of days gone by.
