Front

From the front the Motorola Razr Maxx VE is striking. In place of the small screen and dull grey surrounds on the V3m, the Maxx sports a reflective front that hides a large 1.7" external display and three touch sensitive controls underneath the screen to control your music. Above the display is the casing for the 2 megapixel camera and flash. The camera is built into the hinge, so when you open the device it rotates to the back of the device.

Left

The left side of the device has a volume rocker key on the lower part of the flip near the top. Just below this is a key that turns on the external display and launches the music program. Near the bottom of the device is the Mini USB port that we have come to expect from Motorola.

Top

The top of the phone does not contain any significant features.

Bottom

The bottom of the device does not contain any significant features.

Right

On the right side of the device is a dedicated key for voice command.

Back

Turning the device over you see the Verizon and Motorola logos on the battery cover. Above this you see the back of the rotating hinge has a button on it. This button can be used when the device is closed to take self portraits. When it is opened it rotates with the hinge so you can access it on the inside.

Front Open

When you open the Razr Maxx VE you see the internal color display on the top part of the display. Motorola did not supply any information about display resolution or color depth. On the hinge between the top and bottom parts of the phone you see the camera shutter key, which has rotated with the hinge. below this are the keys and keyboard on a single piece of metal as we have come to expect from Razr devices.

Battery Out
We were not able to take a photo of the battery slot.  Motorola did not supply any information about capacity or expected battery life.

In the Box
The list of accessories that will be included with the Razr Maxx VE wasn't available, but most previous models have included just the phone and a charger: Motorola does not normally supply a headset with their phones.

Handling
We found the Razr Maxx VE easy to hold due to the soft touch paint on the back of the phone. We did have some concerns about the reflective plastic front as it picks up fingerprints very easily. Like all Razr's it is a little wide, and may be uncomfortable to hold for long periods for those with small hands. We did find the controls on the inside of the device much easier to use than the traditional Razr keyboard due to the raised ridges between buttons.

Portability
Despite the slightly larger size when compared to the Razr V3m, the Maxx is still eminently portable, and will fit easily into a pants pocket or purse.

Aesthetic
We must admit that we liked the look of the Razr Maxx VE. We found the reflective front of the device attractive (when clean), and also liked the look and feel of the soft touch paint on the back. We did find it to lean a little more in the "professional" good looks direction rather than the "young and sexy" look due to the all black casing, but as always this is completely subjective.

Durability

We did not notice any significant problems with the Maxx VE's construction, however we always have concerns about phones with moving parts. In this case those concerns are heightened because of the presence of important components (the camera) on the hinge itself.
