The Motorola Razr Maxx VE sports a 2 megapixel camera with auto focus lens, a significant upgrade compared to previous Razrs. You can use the camera when closed to take self portraits using the shutter button which is located on the back side of the hinge. When you open the phone up the camera lens rotates to the back of the phone with the shutter button coming to the front. There is also a dedicated camera key to the left of the directional pad, although you can only use the autofocus feature with the shutter button on the hinge. The camera interface on the Razr Maxx VE is similar to that found on other Verizon Brew phones. The majority of the display is taken up by the viewfinder, with indicators below for zoom, camera mode and resolution. The left soft key takes you to the pictures application, while the right soft key opens the menu. We were not particularly impressed with the live preview on the Razr Maxx VE. The screen did not display the image in a very high resolution, and edges were not particularly sharp. The Razr Maxx VE's camera has a 4x optical zoom, which is of limited utility. The photo album software on the Razr Maxx VE is similar to the Razr V3m album, with thumbanails arranged in two columns. The left soft key launches the camera application, while the right soft key opens the options menu.

The Razr Maxx VE takes video at either 320 x 240 or 176 x 144 resolution. This is a significant step up over previous versions of the Razr, but note that by default the video camera records at the lower resolution. The Maxx VE records video in Mpeg-4 H263 format, a widely used codec. The interface of the video camera is very similar to the stills camera interface, with the viewfinder taking up most of the screen and indicator icons along the bottom. It is the same interface as found on other Verizon Brew phones.
