The Motorola Razr Maxx VE's keypad is large and roomy as we expect from a Razr branded phone. We found the keypad easier to type on than the Razr V3m due to the raised ridges that more clearly differentiate the keys. The Maxx supports T9 predictive text entry, but we were unable to determine if it supported auto completion of words. You can control the keypad backlight independent of the screen backlight, however we were not able to determine if there is a a light sensor for automatic backlight adjustment. We found the controls on the Razr Maxx VE to be eaiser to use than previous Razr's for the same reason as the keypad, the raised ridges between controls make it easier to differentiante keys. In addition to the standard directional pad and soft keys, the Razr Maxx VE has a camera/camcorder key to the left of the D-Pad and a clear/back key to the right. The camera/camcorder key launches the camera when pressed or the camcorder when you press and hold it. You can also switch between the two when in either interface by tapping this key. On the left side of the phone is a shortcut key which launches the music player, and on the right side of the device another shortcut key puts you into the voice command program
We were unable to determine what resolution either screen on the Razr Maxx VE was. The exterior screen measures 1.7" diagonal, a large exterior screen for a regular phone. Both screens looked fairly average in terms of quality, and did not seem to be a significant upgrade compared to the Razr V3m.
We were pleased to see that the Razr Maxx VE ships with a Mini USB port for power and data. We were less excited about the fact that this port is also used for headphones, however support for stereo bluetooth headphones does make this a little more palatable. The Razr Maxx VE ships with 60MB of internal storage, and the ability to add a MicroSD card for expanded storage up to 2GB. With a large memory card you have enough storage for around 500 mp3 songs.
