21st Nov 07 – Verizon has just announced the release of the FlipShot, a new $199.99 handset manufactured by Samsung that includes a 3-megapixel camera and a rotating screen that can be used to take self-portraits, or to use the 2.2-inch display to take photos on with the case closed.

The screen can rotate 180 degrees, so you can either use it as a normal internal phone screen, or rotate it around and close the case, so that the screen is on the outside and can be used like the LCD screen on the back of a digital camera. The 3-megapixel camera takes photos at a maximum resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels, but doesn't include an optical zoom.
Other features of the FlipShot include video capture, support for downloading music directly to the device from Verizon's own VCast service and support for EVDO data. The usual selection of software is also included, including Verizon's own web and email clients, plus their VZ Navigator GPS software. Bluetooth is also included, along with support for Bluetooth headphones and headsets. Verizon claims a call time of up to 3.5 hours and a standby time of over 8 days.
The FlipShot is available now from Verizon wireless for $199 with a 2-year contract, in any color you like, as long as it's black.
