25th Oct 07 – Verizon has dropped its lawsuit against the FCC over the forthcoming auction of parts of the valuable 700MHz radio spectrum. The company had been sueing to try and block rules that would force the wining bidder to allow devices other than their own to connect on the auctioned frequencies, but according to the NY Times, they have just filed paperwork that withdraws their lawsuit.

The change in approach by the wireless giant came after one judge dismissed their initial lawsuit, and another judge then refused them permission to have their appeal heard on an expedited timescale, as the auction is going to happen in January. Verizon didn't issue a comment on their lawsuit withdrawal, but it seems likely that they dropped it as it was unlikely to be heard before the auction, and was unlikely to have any real impact on it after the event.
