RIM is planning to extend the interface for its popular Blackberry devices to the Windows Mobile device platform by using virtualization technology. Running as a separate application the Virtual Blackberry software will allow users to access all Blackberry services and applications including integration with RIM's push email solution. RIM expects to ship the software later this year on Windows Mobile 6 devices.RIM has faced increased competition in the push email and smart mobile device space from various sources, including Windows Mobile, which has added push email support via Microsoft Exchange Server. RIM already offers Blackberry Connect, software that allows integration with their push email service on various platforms, including Windows Mobile and Symbian. This new software allows users to access the entire Blackberry interface on their Windows Mobile device.
RIM recently released fourth quarter and year end results for Fiscal 2007 showing net income of 187.9 million for the fourth quarter of 2007 with 1.02 million Blackberry subscriber accounts added.
