T-Mobile raises SMS rates

T-Mobile plans to follow in the footsteps of their competitors and raise their text messaging rates. Effective June 1, 2007 the rate to send and receive a SMS message will be raised from 10 to 15 cents. The same day the charge for MMS (multi-media) messages will be decreased from 25 to 15 cents per message.

The raised rates constitute a breach of contract on the part of T-Mobile for current subscribers making it possible for them to leave the service without paying the hefty fine for ending the contract early. Many other cell phone companies have already raised their text messaging rates, making most moves for text message fee gripes pretty pointless.
