11 Oct 07 – It's no rumor: the latest handset from Sprint is the LG Rumor. Sprint claims that this small QWERTY phone will “bring your social network with you wherever you go”, by offering east access to email accounts, instant messaging and Facebook. The LG Rumor will be available on October 21st for $79 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a 2-year contract.
As the name suggests, the LG Rumor is aimed at the emailing, IMing and social networking youth of today, with the messaging features of the phone being as important as the phone features. Closed, the LG Rumor is a pretty ordinary looking candybar-style phone. But when you slide out the keyboard, the Rumor moves into its messaging menu, from which the user can access the email, IM and social networking features. The supported IM services include AIM, Yahoo and MSN, and the social networking features include access to Facebook and Xanga profiles. There is, however, no support for access to MySpace profiles.

The LG Rumor is a small phone; at just 4.3 by 2 by 0.7 inches, it's on the small side for a QWERTY slider phone. It's pretty lightweight too; the it weighs just 4.13 ounces; about the same as the Razr2 V9, but somewhat larger. Other features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, and a micro SD slot that supports cards up to 4GB in size. It isn't clear what size of headset/headphone port will be included, but Bluetooth headphones will be supported.
Another interesting feature that the LG Rumor includes is text tones, which are ringtones for text messages. Users can assign specific text tones to contacts, and the phone will use this text tone when the contact sends a text message. The LG Rumor will cost $79, after a $50 mail-in rebate with a 2-year contract. It will be available in black/blue and white/silver as of the 21st of October.
