13th June 2007 - If the basic black of the UpStage isn’t your thing, Sprint has you covered; they’ve just announced a new version of their UpStage music phone that comes in red. Described by Sprint as a “fashionable red color option”, the new $99 version of the UpStage (which we reviewed here) comes in a bright candy red color case. But the red UpStage is identical to the existing UpStage in other ways; it’s a dual sided candybar style phone that has two LCD screens. The user flips from one side to the other with a special button on the side of the phone.

Sprint makes much of the music features of the UpStage; it can download songs directly from the Sprint music store that cost just 99 cents. Other features of the UpStage include EVDO data, support for Bluetooth 2.0, and an interesting feature where the phone will speak the number or contact details of incoming calls over a bluetooth headset, so users can choose to answer or ignore calls without reaching for the handset. The red UpStage will be avaialble on the 18th of June and costs $99 with a two-year service agreement, and comes with a $50 service credit.
