Sprint Offers Unlimited Voice & Data In More Markets

16th May 2007 – Sprint is widening the reach of their trial unlimited voice and data plan. The $119.99 a month all-you-can-eat plan for voice, text and data had been offered in the San Francisco Bay Area as a trail for the last few months, but they are now offering this to customers in the Minneapolis- St Paul, Philadelphia and Tampa, Florida areas.

The new plan, called the Unlimited Access Pack, offers unlimited voice, text, web browsing, email and push-to-talk service for appropriately equipped phones for $119.99 a month, or $149.99 a month if you want to add broadband access over a PC Connection card. Sprint claims that’s a saving of over $110 a month. That price includes roaming and long distance for voice, but not roaming for data, and the terms contain the phrase “A majority of minutes may not be used while roaming”. This refers to roaming off the Sprint network though; if you subscribe to the plan, you can make calls and use data services across the Sprint network. You can only subscribe to the new plan if your billing address is within one of the covered zip codes, though.

Sprint declined to comment on if they are planning to roll this unlimited calling plan to other markets, but we wouldn’t be surprised; the plan is expensive, but there are a good number of users who it would work very well for. For one, thing, if you’re in an area with good coverage, it could replace both your home phone and home DSL connection; Sprint offers EVDO Rev A coverage in all of the markets covered by this new plan, offering access that’s nearly as fast as most DSL services.
