20th June 2007 - If the $599 iPhone is too expensive, Sprint has something for you; they’ve just announced a new $49 flip phone from Sanyo. The SCP-3200 is a clamshell-style phone that includes a VGA camera, speakerphone and is available in three colors: Midnight Black, Playful Pink or Atlantic Blue. Sprint claims the new phone (which weight just 3.4 ounces) has a talk time of up to 3.8 hours and is GPS enabled, so it can be used with Sprint’s navigation service, which provides turn-by-turn directions. There are two displays; an internal 128 by 160 pixel display, an another 96 by 32 pixel display on the outside of the phone. It includes a Bluetooth 2.0 radio, but there is no high-speed data support; the SCP-3200 has only a 1xRTT connection, which maxes out at around 100kpbs. The SCP-3200 does support use as a tethered modem, though, so you can use it to connect a laptop to the Internet through the optional USB cable or through Bluetooth.
