Audio quality on the Sony-Ericsson Z750a was a mixed bag. Although the audio sent by the phone was quite good, we weren't happy with the audio received by the phone. You may also find yourself speaking too loudly as side tone was on the low side.

General Audio
In order to give you the best information about the audio quality of a device we use professional equipment and software to test audio quality. To simulate the human ear we use a Head and Torso Simulator (HATS). To analyze the audio itself we use Listen Inc's Soundcheck software. For more information on how we do our audio testing see this article

Sound Receive Frequency Response (7.27)
Below you see a graph of the audio received by the Sony-Ericsson Z750a. The blue line indicates the Z750a's performance while the two red lines are the limits against which we test.

Sound receive rrequency response for the Z750a.

You can see that the Z750a had some issues in this test, rising above our limits at the lower frequency range and then dipping below them in the mid range. This means you may notice that voices on the phone seem to jump up and down. The issue isn't debilitating, but it could be annoying. You can see below that only the T-Mobile Shadow amongst our comparison phones performed worse in this test than the Z750a.

Sound Send Frequency Response (8.80)
Here we take a look at the sound sent by the Sony-Ericsson Z750a, so this is how you will sound to those on the other end of the call. Like the graph above the blue line indicates the Z750a's performance while the two red lines are the limits we test against.

Sound sent frequency response for the Z750a.

You can see that the Z750a's performance in this test was significantly better, as the phone did not cross our limits at any point and the curve is reasonably smooth and shows the nice rise and dip at the higher frequencies we like to see. This is reflected in the score, which was the best amongst our comparison phones.

Handset Side Tone (5.58)
Side tone is the small amount of your own voice that is piped back into your ear so you can judge how loudly you are speaking. Below you can see the Sony-Ericsson Z750a's side tone graphed across frequencies.

Side tone across frequencies.

The Z750a's average side tone was -22.42 decibels. This is several decibels lower than our ideal of -18 decibels. What this means is that you may judge your voice to be too low, causing you to speak more loudly than you should. The Sony-Ericsson Z750a's performance in this test was pretty poor, you can see below that only the T-Mobile Shadow performed worse.
