Call Time (5.30)
To test a phone's call time we made a call to the handset using Skype and piped an audio book over the connection to simulate conversation. We then timed how long it took for the battery to run out. The W580i lasted 4 hours and 25 minutes in our test, a reasonably good time. It's about middle of the pack, nowhere near as good as the Samsung Upstage, but better than the Fin or the Blast.

Music Playback (4.02)
To see how long the battery lasts while playing music we set the phone to play an album in looped mode with the volume turned up to maximum. We then timed how long it took for the battery to run out. The W580i lasted 5 hours and 35 minutes in our test. This is a good time, but isn't special. You can see below that all of our comparison phones lasted longer, some significantly so. We wish the W580i had done better in this test, as it is supposed to be a music-focused handset.

Web Browsing (5.02)
We test the battery life while browsing the Web by setting the phone to browse a website that automatically refreshes, then leaving it to run for as long as it can last. The W580i managed to keep on browsin' for 4 hours and 11 minutes. That's a reasonable time; it is significantly longer than other similarly-sized phones like the Razr 2 and the LG Chocolate.
