14th June 2007 - Many people don’t wear a wristwatch anymore, relying instead on their cell phone to tell the time. But Sony Ericsson is hoping the wristwatch will make a comeback; they’ve just announced three new Bluetooth wristwatches that integrate with cell phones. The three watches (which were developed with watch manufacturer Fossil) are the Bluetooth Watch MBW-150 Music Edition, the Executive Edition and the Classic Edition. All three include a Bluetooth radio that can be paired with a cell phone, allowing you to be notified of an incoming call with a gentle vibration. You can also see who is calling on a small display under the analog watch mechanism, and to answer or reject the call with a push of a button on the watch. They also allow you to control the music features of many phones, playing or pausing music on the phone.
Text messages can also be viewed on the small LED display on the watch face; new messages scroll across the display when they are received.
Sony has not announced pricing on the Bluetooth watches yet, but says they will be available in select markets in the fourth quarter of 2007.
