Summary
The Samsung M520 is a CDMA handset that will only function on Sprint's network. It does support reasonably high speed data via Sprint's EVDO network and also provides solid Bluetooth functionality.
Cellular Bands (4.0)
The Samsung M520 is a dual-band (800/1900) CDMA handset that will only function on Sprint's network. CDMA networks are widespread in the United States as both Sprint and Verizon use the technology but if you're a world traveller you will find the Samsung M520 is not a good choice as it doesn't support the GSM standard used in most countries. Our score for cellular bands is based on the total number of bands supported.
Data Support Score (6.0)
The Samsung M520 supports Sprint's high speed EVDO network with average speeds between 500 - 700 kbps. It does not support their newer EVDO Rev A network with speeds over 1Mbps nor will it support their upcoming WiMax network. If you're not in an EVDO area you'll fall back on the slower 1XRTT network, with maximum speeds around 100kbps.
Bluetooth (8.5)
The Samsung M520 supports Bluetooth 2.0. It supports a reasonable set of profiles including Headset, Hands-Free, Dial up Networking, Object Push, FTP, Basic Printing Profile, A2DP, AVRCP and Phone Book Access Profile. We had no problem pairing the M520 with a Bluetooth headset.
Wi-Fi (0.0)
The Samsung M520 does not support Wi-Fi.
Infrared (0.0)
the M520 also lacks support for Infrared.
