Samsung M520 Cell Phone Review - Conclusion

Who's It For

Business User

The Samsung M520 has professional good looks that will be attractive to business users, but the lack of a true email client and the less than impressive talk time mean we can't recommend this phone to those who need a robust cell phone for business.

Budget Callers

The M520 is an excellent choice for those who are on a budget but still want a phone with decent functionality and understated good looks. You can find a phone for less, but the quality of the features and looks will drop off quickly.

Chatty Teenager

Chatty teenagers will like the excellent keypad for texting, but we're unsure whether they'll like the somewhat boring look of the phone.

Media Maven

Media Maven's will love the excellent music playback time, but you have to balance that against the slow Sprint music software. We think you can do better for a multimedia device, and if you want video playback and a decent camera you better stay away.

Conclusion
The Samsung M520 is an entry level handset that provides generally solid functionality with a couple of nice extras and a couple of areas of weakness. Most prominent amongst it's drawbacks is the poor camera quality. The resolution score we saw went beyond poor, it was amongst the worst we've ever seen from a cell phone. On the plus side you do get GPS functionality at an entry level price, and as long as you can live with Sprint's Navigation software you should be fine. We liked that the M520 posted an impressive 13 hours plus of music playback time in our battery tests, although we wish that Sprint would improve their slow to launch music software. Overall the M520 is a reasonable value for the price, you can find handsets with different sets of trade-offs but nothing at a similar price point will blow the M520 out of the water.
