Summary
The Samsung M520 put up an impressive battery life for music playback but was below average for call time and web browsing time. For more information on how we conduct our battery tests see this article.
Call Time (4.80)
The Samsung M520's call time came in at four hours. This is slightly below average, as you can see from the chart below. Four hours is just about the low end of what we would consider an acceptable talk time. You can also see that several of our comparison handsets performed more poorly in this test than the M520, so it could be worse.
Music playback time on the Samsung M520 was significantly better than talk time at thirteen hours forty-two minutes. In fact this is amongst the best scores we've seen from a phone. You can see from the chart below that the M520 was significantly above average and only the Samsung SLM amongst our comparison phones performed better. The M520's excellent time in this test means you can listen to music on the device for a long time without worrying about ending up with a dead handset.
We browsing time on the Samsung M520 was three hours thirty-eight minutes. This is lower than we would have liked and seems to mirror the talk time performance as you can see from the chart below. We should note that we had some problems with our normal web browsing test on the M520. Normally we point the phone's browser at a simple web page that is set to refresh every ten seconds. Unfortunately the M520's browser wasn't able to browse to our test site so we had to conduct the test manually.
We do not test idle time in order to ensure we deliver reviews in a timely fashion. Unfortunately neither Sprint nor Verizon provide information about the expected idle time of the Samsung M520. Normally phones have idle time of at least several days.
