Value (4.0)
The Samsung Glyde is available for $199.99 with a two-year contract exclusively from Sprint. This means Verizon considers the phone to be a high end device, and if all you were looking at were the spec sheet they might be right. Unfortunately the reality is that the Glyde is over-priced. The key feature, the touch screen, is flaky and frustrating to use. The keyboard is nice, but we've seen much better on other devices. Apart from that the Glyde is a very ordinary device, and should be priced at half what Verizon is currently asking for it. We recommend you wait a few months for the price to drop to a more reasonable level.

Palm Centro - Apart from the two megapixel auto-focus camera on the Glyde there's really nothing else that would cause us to recommend it over the Centro. The Centro is a full smart phone with all the capabilities that entails. It lacks some of the Glyde's other features like GPS and V Cast Mobile TV, but unless these features are must haves for you save the $100 and go with the Centro.

LG enV2 - Despite lacking the current hot feature, a touch screen, the enV2 is a superior handset in almost all respects. The only possible exception might be the camera, but it's close there. At $70 less than the Glyde we can't think of any reason why you would pick the latter over the enV2.

Sidekick LX - Like the Centro the Sidekick LX is also a smart phone that has many more capabilities than the Glyde. It also has some serious flaws that don't make this such a clear cut decision. The Sidekick is significantly larger than the Glyde, which will be a consideration for some. The camera is also absolutely terrible, while the Glyde's camera is above average. This one's a tough call, but if you're debating between these two handsets you might just want to take a look at the Centro...

LG Voyager - The Voyager is Verizon's other high end touch screen feature phone. We found that the touch screen on the Voyager was much more responsive and easy to use than the Glyde's. Camera quality was about the same, but the Voyager has the edge in audio quality. The Voyager also has the edge in a lot of subtle features, for example you can create a new SMS much quicker on the Voyager and the web browser is a better experience. You'll pay $100 more for the Voyager, which is a lot, but if you're picking between these two we say pay the extra Benjamin.

Apple iPhone - You have to know that any device with a touch screen as its main feature is going to be compared to the iPhone. In this case it's no comparison, the iPhone is a superior device in almost all respects. There are a few places where the two phones tie, for example the cameras tested out similarly, but the clincher for us is the touch screen experience. For both devices this is the principal method of interacting with the device and there's just no way to explain in words how much better the iPhone experience is. It's like the difference between getting your hair cut and having it plucked out one hair at a time. You'll pay for that extra quality, though, as the iPhone will cost you twice as much as the Glyde. If you're trying to decide between these two devices, however, we say go with the iPhone.
