Samsung Glyde Cell Phone Review - Intro

The Samsung Glyde's signature features are a touch screen interface and a slide out QWERTY keyboard. Unfortunately neither impressed us very much. We found the Glyde's touch screen was unresponsive and difficult to use. The QWERTY faired a bit better, we could type relatively fast on it, but we found the keys clicky and the top row too close to the upper part of the slider. The Glyde does have some good points, it's two megapixel auto-focus camera took better than average shots, battery life on the handset was solid and it sports some advanced features like Verizon's TV service and GPS. Does the good outweigh the bad? Read the review to find out.

The Glyde is available exclusively from Verizon Wireless for $199.99 with a two-year contract.

Section The Good The Bad
Tour & Design The Glyde feels comfortable in the hand All that shiny plastic can be scratched easily
Audio Quality Audio sent by the Glyde was good Audio received was not so good
Imaging Resolution on the two megapixel camera was good
Color accuracy was not
Making/Receiving Calls Call management features are comprehensive Dialing a number was a little slow
Messaging The text messaging interface is intuitive It took too long to get a new SMS going
Organizer Nothing really stood out Voice dialing didn't work very well
Multimedia The large screen is suited to watching video content Music software is slow to load and you can't run it in the background
Software The home screen is fun and customizable The "advanced" web browser just doesn't cut it
Battery Life Above average music playback and web browsing Not really bad, but the talk time was just average
Connectivity Very good Bluetooth support CDMA lock-in means it won't work overseas
Hardware 42.9 words per minute on the keyboard Clicky buttons and a frustrating touch screen
Other Features Support for Verizon's new broadcast TV service You'll have to pay if you want to use the GPS capabilities
Value & Comparisons The price isn't jaw droppingly high
But it's more than the phone is worth
