Call Time (7.40)
To test battery performance during calls we make a call to the phone using Skype and pipe an audio book over the connection to simulate conversation. The Blackjack II lasted six hours ten minutes under these conditions, which is very good performance. Most phones fall between four and six hours. The performance is even more impressive given that the Blackjack II uses AT&T's power hungry 3G networks.

Cell Phone Talk Time Score
Blackjack II 6 hours 10 mins 7.40
Nokia N81 8GB 5 hours 25 mins 6.50
BlackBerry Curve 8320 7 hours 24 mins 8.88
Palm Centro 4 hours 8 mins 4.96
AT&T Tilt 5 hours 0 mins 6.00
Apple iPhone 7 hours 4 mins 8.48

Music Playback (5.64)
To test music playback we set an album to play repeatedly and then time how long it takes for the battery to run out. The Blackjack II lasted seven hours fifty minutes in our music playback test. This is a good score, but we've seen much better, as you can see below. Still, it's good enough that you can use the Blackjack II as your music player for several hours a day and still have power left over to make some calls.

Cell Phone Music Playback Time Score
Blackjack II 7 hours 50 mins 5.64
Nokia N81 8GB 4 hours 19 mins 3.11
BlackBerry Curve 8320 12 hours 2 mins 8.66
Palm Centro 6 hours 47 mins 4.88
AT&T Tilt 5 hours 19 mins 3.83
Apple iPhone 10 hours 46 mins 7.75

Web Browsing (5.06)
In this test we look at how long battery life lasts when browsing the web. To do this test we point the phone's web browser at a page that is set to refresh every ten seconds and then make sure that the display stays on. The Blackjack II lasted four hours thirteen minutes in our web browsing test. This is a solid time given that the Blackjack II runs on AT&T's HSDPA network, which is very battery intensive. Given that the original Blackjack had very poor battery life, to the point where AT&T and Samsung started including a second battery in the sales package we have to say we are impressed and happy with the Blackjack II's battery performance. You can see below that several other handsets did better than the Blackjack II on this test, but the only real comparison is the Tilt, which also uses the HSDPA network and did significantly worse than the Blackjack II.

Cell Phone Browsing Time Score
Blackjack II 4 hours 13 mins 5.06
Nokia N81 8GB 5 hours 38 mins 6.76
BlackBerry Curve 8320 10 hours 43 mins 11.66
Palm Centro 4 hours 22 mins 5.24
AT&T Tilt 3 hours 3 mins 3.66
Apple iPhone 5 hours 13 mins 6.26

Idle Time unscored
In order to deliver reviews in a timely fashion we don't test idle time for cell phones. AT&T's stated standby time is 14 days.
