Summary
The Samsung Ace is capable of functioning on both Sprint's CDMA network and international GSM networks, making it a good choice for world travellers. We were also quite pleased with the Ace's Bluetooth support, although it would have been nice to see Wi-Fi on the device as well.

Cellular Bands (8.0)
The Samsung Ace is one of the few handsets available that will function on both CDMA and GSM networks. CDMA functionality on the 800/1900 bands is for Sprint's network. GSM functionality is onlly available on two bands used internationally, 900/1800. This is because the Ace's dual functionality is meant to allow users to use the phone internationally, not on GSM networks in the U.S. What this means is that the Ace is a good choice for those who want to have a CDMA handset from Sprint that will also allow them to roam on international networks. It won't work on U.S. GSM providers like T-Mobile or AT&T, however. Our score for Cellular bands is based on the total number of bands supported.

Data Support Score (8.0)
The Samsung Ace supports Sprint's EVDO network for speeds between 400 - 700 kbps with maximum speeds up to 1 mbps. If EVDO is not available in your area you fall back on 1XRTT, which maxes out at 100 kbps, however Sprint's EVDO network is fairly widespread. When using the phone on a GSM network there is no support for 3G so you use the slower EDGE network, with maximum speeds of about 230 kbps.

Bluetooth (10.5)
The Samsung Ace supports Bluetooth 2.0 and a good selection of Bluetooth profiles including: Headset, Hands-Free, Personal Area Network, Object Push, File Transfer, Basic Printing, A2DP, AVRCP, Phone Book Access, HID, Sync, OBEX and Serial Port. We were able to get a bluetooth headset working with the device with no problems. We were quite pleased with the range of profiles supported, often you'll see devices limited in their Bluetooth capabilities like the iPhone, but the Ace is very capable.

Wi-Fi (0.0)
The Ace does not support Wi-Fi functionality, probably because Sprint wants you to use their EVDO network instead.

Infrared (0.0)
Infrared is not supported on the Ace, not surprising since Bluetooth has basically replaced the functions of this older short-range wireless technology.
