Samsung Ace Cell Phone Review - Conclusion

Who's It For

Business User
The Ace is an excellent choice for business users who want a smart phone from Sprint that will also work on overseas networks. Our only major concern is that talk time could be a little better.

Budget Callers
The Ace is over-priced the moment and as such is not a good choice for budget callers.

Chatty Teenager
The Ace probably isn't cool enough for most teenagers and it packs more functionality than most teenagers will need. The price is also liable to scare Mom and/or Dad.

Media Maven
Windows Media Player does a solid job but the load times were a bit slow, the maximum storage is capped at only 2GB and the camera is poor. For the price Media Mavens can find a better device elsewhere.

Conclusion
The Samsung Ace is going to be attractive to many people because of its ability to support both Sprint's CDMA network and international GSM networks. Anyone who travels overseas a lot and has been forced to purchase or rent another phone as a Sprint customer will appreciate this capability. The Ace does have more to offer, however. Running Windows Mobile Standard it is a powerful smart phone with excellent organization and messaging capabilities. We found the QWERTY keyboard a little uncomfortable to use, but we can't argue with the results as we were able to type an impressive 49 words per minute on it. All of these will make it attractive to many users, but the Ace does have it's negative side as well.

In particuarl we were puzzled by the decision to remove Office Mobile from the device. This means you won't be able to edit Word or Excel documents without purchasing third party software. Certainly the decision was not to save money as the Ace costs twice what other similarly specced smart phones do. If you will really use the support for international networks and you're married to Sprint the Ace is probably worth it, but others will probably be beter off going with a cheaper, and in some cases better, alternative like the Blackjack II or Palm Centro.
