SK Telecom to buy Sprint?

Wow, kids, talk about a way to get US cell phone bloggers tongues wagging... SK Telecom says it's in talks to buy Sprint.

For those not awed enough by that sentence alone, and don't understand why it deserves its own paragraph, let's break it down for you. SK Telecom is South Korea's top wireless provider, and many mobile pundits look to SK Telecom for the "future" of the industry.  For example, SK Telecom championed mobile TV through DVB-H, among other technological achievements.  Many absolutely insane phones come out in South Korea, as you doubt know, and our favs are usually on SK Telecom.

Helio, the MVNO reselling access on Sprint, already has a deal with SK Telecom; in fact Helio is a partnership between Earthlink (and Skye Davidson) and SK Telecom, which is why phones like the Ocean hit Helio.  A deal with Sprint could be even more interesting, and if SK Telecom moved any of their cutting-edge tactics to the US, Sprint might be able to move out of its number three spot.
